Doug Bear Certified Kitchen Designer

Hometown:
I'm from Madison, but have lived away on several different occassions.

Education:
Madison East High School and the University of Wisconsin with a Major in Business Administration Construction Management

What I like best about KIC?
Definitely the people. They are a great group of people to work with.

Brief work history:
After two years in the military, I was employed as a construction manager for a retail company in Colorado building outlets in all Western States. Moving back to Wisconsin, I spent quite a few years as a product designer and residential designer. In 1982, I opened a kitchen design and sales showroom and operated that until 2001 when we were purchased by Kitchen Ideas Center.

Design/Remodeling philosophy:
Simplicity. I much prefer angles and clean straight lines. I don't like rounded curves or clutter.

Advise to someone remodeling a project:
Patience. The process can be a challenge because you never see instant results. The payoff will be well worth the wait.

What do I enjoy in my other life outside of KIC?
I'm active in the National Kitchen & Bath Association, attending seminars and discussion panels. I even wrote the Certified Kitchen Design exam. In my spare time, my wife and I enjoy traveling as much as possible - especially to Colorado and Arizona.
